Advanced Deckhand Course

The Advanced Deckhand course includes wakeboarding, knee boarding and tubing. The focus is also on guest service relating to watersports at sea, i.e collision regulations, flags, correct PPE and best practice etc.

The course material also dives into more detailed subjects, such as product and crew management, rigging, Superyacht top coat finishes (spray and brush, fibre glass repairs, 3 different types of splicing, mooring operations of tenders and vessel, duties and responsibilities of senior crew members and how to advance from a junior deckhand and level up.

Students stay on the boat during the RYA Competent Crew, Day Skipper & Yachtmaster Practical courses to get a real feel for onboard living and is a mandatory requirement. ENG1 MEDICAL
It is mandatory for anyone working onboard a boat to have an ENG1 seafarer medical fitness certificate whether
you are a seafarer; in charge of a ship or are serving on a merchant ship or yacht.
There is an additional fee for the ENG1 medical examination and must be issued by a doctor approved by the Maritime
and Coastguard Agency (MCA).

Students stay on the boat during the RYA Competent Crew, Day Skipper & Yachtmaster Practical courses to get a real feel for onboard living and is a mandatory requirement. A stipend for essentials (tea, coffee, cereal, milk, etc) is included in the course price. During the theory week and STCW, students have the option of staying at our Academy in the Waterfront.
For practical courses we ask that students bring a sleeping bag, towel, toiletries, change of clothes, and suitable wet weather gear. Sunglasses and sunscreen are also a good idea.

For the theory course students will need a 2B pencils, a pen, a notebook and where possible, their own Portland plotter and dividers (we can also loan to the student). We can also help with the purchase of any of these materials.
