Day Skipper Theory
The RYA Day Skipper Theory Course is the first component for a Day Skippers Qualification. It is a comprehensive introduction to seamanship for competent crew to start making decision on board.

Course Description
Nautical Terms, ropework, anchorwork, safety, international regulations for preventing collisions at sea, definition of position, corse and speed, navigational charts and publications, navigational drawing instruments, compas, chartwork and navigation, tides and tidal streams, visual aids to navigation.
- 5 days or 40 hours of classroom tuition (excluding assignments).
- Beginner / Intermediate theory course
- RYA Day Skipper Shorebased Course Completion Certificate
- Classes at V& A Waterfront, Cape Town
Assumed prior knowledge: Candidates should have previous sailing experience (Competent Crew).
Ability after course: Theory knowledge to skipper a small yacht in familiar waters by day.
