RYA Yachtmaster Sail – Theory & Practical

The RYA Yachtmaster Theory & Practical for Sail is for candidates wishing to take the RYA Yachtmaster practical exam to obtain a Yachtmaster coastal or offshore ticket.

Preparation for exam by polishing skills like Boat Handling, Man Overboard, Safety, Meteorology, Skippering Ability, Blind Navigation, Anchoring under sail, Passage planning.

Course Description

The RYA Exam for Sailing is an intensive 2-day practical test of the candidate’s competency. Candidates will be assessed by an independent RYA Examiner.

A commanding knowledge of boat handling, passage making, collision regulations, meteorology, navigation and boat safety is expected. Candidates are responsible for providing documentation confirming that they have met the requirements necessary to be eligible for the exam.

TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE OFFSHORE EXAM, CANDIDATES REQUIRE THE FOLLOWING:

  • 50 days sea time
  • 5 days as skipper
  • 2500nm (on vessels under 24m in length)
  • 5 passages over 60nm
  • 2 overnight passages
  • 2 passages over 60nm as skipper
  • VHF ticket
  • First Aid Certificate
  • Commercial & STCWendorsements require further courses and an ENG1 medical.

The RYA Exam Prep course assumes that students have taken the RYA Yachtmaster Theory course prior to embarking on the rya exam prep. While it is not mandatory, we highly recommend that students do take the theory course.
